The Addadi Mariam Church is believed to have been built by King Lalibela. Unlike the churches in Lalibela’s Lasta, this one features a round shape and remains unfinished, likely due to the softness of the rock from which it was carved. The rock-hewn church has steps leading down to its main entrances and includes several gates, windows, and a trench surrounding it that functions as a drainage system.
